I actually still like this classic burger restaurant quite a bit. I really get sick of the old 50's tunes that they play. They play the same ones all the time when you're there. But, the restaurant makes up for that with good food and a fun place to sit and chat with little interruption. I really like the fact that you can add as many vegetables to your food as you want at the topping bar. I love the fact that you can sometimes order an ostrich burger. (I fell in love with the meat in Indonesia where it was an occasional substitute for beef, and you can't really get it at the stores here.) I always order my sandwiches with no butter (or margarine) on the toasted bun. Most of the time they get that part right. I know it sounds crazy, but I top my burgers with banana peppers, lettuce, tomato, and either cholula or green tabasco sauce, salt, and pepper. Sometimes a crispy chicken with swiss chesse and mushrooms is good too.

I love Fresh Food Junkies at the Good Earth in Orem. The only thing it lacks is consistency. Sometimes it's great. Sometimes it's not. Sometimes they're out of pulled turkey. Sometimes they're out of other stuff. Usually, the quality of your meal just depends on who's working and how well trained they are. The good news is that the food is pretty healthy overall. There are some great options, and when they aren't skimping on chips and salsa, it's a great place to eat. My favorite items have been the Turkey Avocado Wrap, some of the soups, and the salsa. Fresh Food Junkies is definitely worth the visit when you're in the neighborhood. It's sometimes really nice to go there in the evenings when it's quieter.

Man, this place was a real dive! My wife and I went here with her parents, and it was like eating Mexican food from a can. I don't think it could have been much worse. I think the restaurant may have been more popular 10 or 20 years ago, but it's definitely nothing to get excited about now.

I used to really enjoy eating at this place. It's a great little Greek burger place with a wide variety of offerings including gyro sandwiches, pastrami burgers, and kabobs. The management is very serious about making the experience a good one, and they run a very tight ship. It wins points for consistency and menu variety. If you're not overly concerned about health, Burgers Supreme is a good place to eat regularly. Otherwise, it's a rare and somewhat oily treat reserved for days that you're really tired of eating every meal at Cafe Rio.

I heard that there was a new, authentic, New York style pizza place in town. So, I took my wife there for lunch the other day. I was really hopeful because I've had some great pizza in The Big Apple, and I couldn't wait for a hot slice of heaven. Anyway, we got there and ordered some pizza. It was an inconvenient experience to begin with because there wasn't much in the way of menu boards or signs to help us choose. So, we ordered the classic pepperoni. It's hard to screw up a pepperoni pizza. But, what we got was shameful. Despite the fact that the crust is pre-cooked, our pizza came to us at a lukewarm temperature and quite floppy with nearly uncooked pepperoni all over it. The sauce tasted like it came straight from a can with little or no flavor at all. The quality of the food was so low that I actually threw half of it away (and we had ordered quite a bit) without even taking a bite. The only thing that resembled New York pizza was the extra-large size of the slice and the fact that there was no silverware available anywhere. I don't know if this restaurant was just having a bad day, but it was a huge disappointment.

Nicolitalia lives up to its name and offers “Homemade Boston Italian Style” in Utah valley of all places. The pizza is authentic, and the salads, subs, calzones, wings, pastas, and chicken and eggplant parmesan are great too. I love the greek salad with chicken added, and the thin crust pizza is my favorite. Although, I have heard a lot of people say that they really dig the thick crust. You really can't find a better east coast pizza in Utah. It's a classic!!!!

Smoke House Pizza & BBQ | Provo, UT (801) 344-8700

The Smokehouse is a great BBQ place - probably the best here. The owner comes from a family of BBQ pros and knows his stuff. The meat is great, and the pizza is really good too. But, the menu could use steamed rice (brown and white) and more vegetables to balance out the protein focused offerings for health conscious folks. The service varies, but is usually good. Overall, it's a fun place to eat.

I've eaten at many Indian restaurants world wide. My family used to take me to some in Indonesia when they lived there. And, I have to say that the Bombay House in Provo holds its own against the best. My wife loves the Chicken Coconut Kurma (mild), and I love the Shrimp Tikka Masala (medium). Add Garlic and Peshwari Naan, and you have a meal to die for. We recently went with some friends, and were surprised to see how much their 1 year old loved the spicy foods. He couldn't stop dipping his bread in the masala sauce and devouring every bite. I can't blame him. It is always good there, and the service is as friendly as it could possibly be. When you go, don't forget to try the Mango Lassi - also amazing.

California Pizza Kitchen at University Mall is great. The only place you can get a better pizza is at my house. I absolutely love the CPK Thai Crunch Salad. I like to order it with the dressing and peanut sauce on the side so I can control how much gets put on my food. The Pepperoni Pomodoro pizza is great when you ask for it extra crispy. But, my favorite is the Wild Mushroom pizza on a super thin crust done especially crispy so the edges are brown. It's pretty incredible with a variety of whole mushrooms including shitake and a mushroom pesto for the sauce. My wife hates the thought of it because she despises mushrooms, but it's one of my all-time favorites. The best part about CPK is their adventure guarantee. It allows you to try something new without risk, which is good because there are a lot of really unique combinations in many of the meals. I am very glad that these guys came to Utah.

Romanos Macaroni Grill at the Riverwoods is great when it's not too crowded and the bread is hot - don't forget to ask for balsamic vinegar to add to the olive oil, salt, and pepper plate for dipping. My favorite meals are the chicken florentine, steak and arugula salad, and build your own pasta (whole wheat penne, spicy tomato sauce, sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, pine nuts, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, and meatballs or italian sausage - topped with grated parmesan). My wife enjoys the pasta milano with no mushrooms. Sometimes the food isn't quite as good as it should be, but most of the time the restaurant is very consistent. The calamari is not the best here, but that doesn't matter if you hate eating squid.

Cafe Rio is the best fast-casual restaurant in the state. The flavor and freshness are amazing. The food is consistently excellent. Costa Vida doesn't come close. Chipotle doesn't compare either despite the fact that the lime cilantro basmati rice is amazing there. Cafe Rio is always good for a relatively quick but really good meal.

The sushi I've had at Ichiban is the best I've had in Utah. There are some great seafood dishes and other options on the menu as well. The service is great, and the restaurant is a fun place to eat. If you don't know if you like sushi, I recommend visiting Ichiban first and trying a few things to find out. A lot of other places can not compare - even outside of Utah.

Las Tarascas is simply the best authentic Mexican restaurant I've visited in the valley. The green tomatillo salsa that comes with your chips is simply amazing. It also goes really well on top of most dishes to add a bit of a kick in flavor. The menu is very diverse, and I recommend trying a variety of things on multiple occasions to see what you like best. The combos are a great place to start. The service is always very friendly and polite. The restaurant is quaint and family run The interior is obviously not professionally designed, but it is very authentic. The prices seem very reasonable, and my experiences have been consistently good.

Tucanos Brazilian Grill | Provo, UT (801) 224-4774

Tucanos is great most of the time. When the meat is fresh and hot, and the salad bar is fully stocked, you can't go wrong if you're dining at Tucanos. There are some off days when nearly all the cuts of meat seem dry and overcooked. But, most of the time, Tucanos has a very authentic and great tasting menu. The salad bar, beans and rice, and traditional greens are authentically flavored and trump the offerings at the Fogo De Chao in Los Angeles. When the meats are fresh and hot, they practically melt in your mouth. The Picanha, Garlic Sirloin, Beef Tender, and Turkey wrapped in Bacon are my favorite meats. Look for pieces of meat that are plump and still juicy - especially in the garlic sirloin and beef tender. If they are dry and a bit shriveled up, they will be tough and overly salty with hardly any natural flavor. The grilled pineapple is fabulous too. Don't miss it. Don't forget to have a hot plate of rice and beans (pinto and black) with some warm Brazilian greens on the side sprinkled with couscous. Then, get a cool salad with fresh spinach, fresh mozzarella, quail eggs, nuts, and more vegetables. Finish off with a plate of fresh fruit, and you will have a very satisfying and well balanced Brazilian meal!

The Chef's Table is not all that great. It doesn't compare to Sundance's Tree Room except in price. The pricing wouldn't be so bad if the food was always good. Some of the dishes are OK by gourmet standards. Others are completely lame and aren't worth a buck. The service can be good or bad depending on the day. I've eaten there three times. I had one good experience that made me come back twice more. The other two were complete bombs. The food wasn't up to snuff, and the service was very poor. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I do not believe it is worthy of a higher class label.
